about
I wrote this song about my mother, who labored over 30 years in a factory so my sister and I could have a good life. She taught us what she knew, and I’ll always be grateful for it.
lyrics
She pins her hair behind her ears. And closes the door so the kids won’t hear her shuffling around looking for her shoes. Headed to the factory to pay her dues. She won’t have to wait for the bus no more. Got her new blue Ford with the dent in the door. Turns the radio on for the news of the day. The report is grim. But she won’t forget to pray for the air she breathes, her kids dirty knees, for a life that allows her to dream. Lalalalalala…she swings and sways. These are great days.
She takes the pins from behind her ears. Her fingers ache but her mind is clear from the clutter of machines and the running of the day. Draws her children near. She reminds them to pray for the air they breathe, the blue of the sea, for a life that allows them their dirty knees, the fruit on the trees, for a life that allows them to dream. Lalalalalala….they swing and sway. These are great days.
